Free Course on RNS Amendments
As you may know, the second edition of the Recommended National Standards for Working with Interpreters in Courts and Tribunals (RNS) was published in March 2022. Thanks to the sponsorship by NAATI, AUSIT successfully delivered a free webinar in August 2022 on the RNS amendments.
We are happy to announce that the webinar has now been converted to a short course that can be accessed free of charge by all interpreters.

An online quiz will be accessible on the course page once a participant has finished watching the recording. An auto-generated Certificate of Participation will be issued to anyone who has passed the online quiz at 100%.

Course Description
In April 2022, the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity (JCCD) launched the second edition of its RNS. The RNS are directed at courts and tribunals, judicial officers, interpreters, and members of the legal profession. They aim to provide courts and legal professionals with guidance on engaging and working with interpreters to ensure procedural fairness for people with limited English proficiency.
Thanks to NAATI's sponsorship, AUSIT is able to present this free webinar to review the changes that have been introduced in light of NAATI’s new certification system and the recent surge in video remote court interpreting. We will explore the advances in the way court interpreters work since the first publication in 2017, and the achievements and challenges of implementing the RNS. Learn practical steps that will assist you in achieving the working conditions you require to professionally deliver your services so they may better serve the justice system.
Prior to attending the session, it would be beneficial for participants to familiarise themselves with the second edition of the RNS, which can be accessed for free on the JCCD’s website.

Presenter - Cintia Lee
Cintia Lee is a Sydney-based NAATI Certified Interpreter and Translator working in the English/Spanish combination and holds a degree in English Philology from the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain.
After gaining her NAATI accreditation in 1994, she has alternated her career between Spain—where she taught English and translated and interpreted for large corporations, government agencies and courts, as well as at international conferences—and Australia, where she has taught Spanish, interpreted at international conferences, translated thousands of documents and accumulated a wealth of experience across a range of community interpreting settings, with a focus on legal and law enforcement.
She has been providing professional interpreting services in criminal, civil and administrative courts and tribunals in Australia since 2011. She has a strong commitment to delivering high-quality interpretation at all times and to upholding the highest professional and ethical standards. She is also an educator in the field of court interpreting. She is passionate about helping others communicate effectively and strives for continuous improvement in an ever-evolving profession. She is a member of AUSIT—where she is currently serving on the NSW Branch Professional Development Committee—and a member of Translators and Interpreters Australia.
